Air Zimbabwe

An experience with Air Zimbabwe in November 2015

VICTORIA FALLS-KARIBA route

Two weeks ago a group of 5 travellers stuck at the Victoria Falls Airport. Their Air Zimbabwe flight was supposed to leave at 2.00pm to Kariba. The flight was delayed because of the heat. Finally the travelers flew from Victoria Falls to Harare, landed in Harare at 6.00pm and have been transfered by road to Kariba that same evening. Arriving in Kariba at 11.00pm instead of 3.30 pm!

Two days ago 2 of our travelers delayed at the Victoria Falls airport.  Their Air Zimbabwe flight was supposed to leave at 2.00pm to Kariba. The flight was delayed with no explanation. Finally the travelers flew from Victoria Falls to Harare, landed in Harare at 5.30pm. They stayed one night at the Rainbow Tower. They finally flew from Harare to Kariba the next morning. Missing one night of an extraordinary experience on the lake Kariba.
Tomorrow, the same 2 travelers are supposed to fly from Kariba direct to Harare. We have just received the information that the time of the flight has changed and has been rerouted via Victoria Falls. So instead of a short flight of less than an hour our travellers will leave camp earlier and get to Harare much later.

Air Zimbabwe has managed quite well in re routing the clients, accommodating them when needed, ... but this is such a waste of time, such a stress for the DMC and the travelers.

Sometimes it is worth spending some more money on private charters to avoid this kind of experience.

Victoria Falls Airport - Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls Airport - Zimbabwe

Tuesday the 3rd of November 2015

Here we are in Victoria Falls airport. The new building looks quite impressive. Only a few months to go before the inauguration ...

The face lift includes a new 4km runway, expansion of the existing runway, construction of a new terminal building, and road network and car park.
The new runway will be able to accommodate wide-body aircraft, such as Airbus A340, Boeing 777 and Boeing 747.
A new fire station and control tower are also being built at the airport.
The new facility will handle more than one million passengers annually up from the current 500,000.

This is how we still collect our luggage's at Victoria Falls International Airport:

We hope to welcome you soon in Victoria Falls.

Luis the SPANISH junior Consultant

Hello, good afternoon subscribers!

It´s me Luis writing, telling you about my experience working at Sikiliza for a month already.

My tasks are very variate, but my principal ones are all the refereed  with the computer systems, web design and I also create this blog. I also mediate with Spanish travel agencies to try to show them how beautiful Zimbabwe is, I´m sure in a couple of years this country will have many Spanish people coming around.

This month I spent here has been wonderful, I meet really nice people (specially my coworkers) and i´m really happy to get the possibility to improve my English and increase my work experience in a special travel agency, all nice people and very professional.

In future if I would like to organize travel around Africa I would undoubtedly choose Sikiliza.

Luis Yanes from Spain, in Zimbabwe, in Sikiliza Office, in my desk, with my laptop.

Greetings and thanks for reading.

Welcome

Southern Africa whispers to you of trips where dreams come true. Where you feel the shiver of the African bush, its desert, the mountains and its rivers, not forgetting the Southern African night sky whilst listening to the legends from the beginning of the world. Yes, we can give you these changes of scenery as Sikiliza is a tour operator founded and established in Southern Africa, by us who love this continent. We were born here, and we live here, and as our forefathers always taught us, this is our land.
